Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act gives everyone the right to access certain information  held by public sector organisations. It also encourages public authorities to pro-actively make as much information about themselves as possible available to the public.

This guide has been created to explain what information we routinely make available either on our website or elsewhere, how you can access it and whether you will be charged for that information.

By law we must routinely make information available that falls under one of the following headings:

» Who we are and what we do
» What we spend and how we spend it
» What our priorities are and how we are doing
» How we make decisions
» Our policies and procedures
» Lists and registers
» Our services

However, please note that while we will make every effort to provde the information you require, there are some exceptions. We do not have to make information routinely available if:

» We do not hold the information
» When information is exempt from disclosure, for instance personal data or commercially sensitive    data
» We cannot easily access the information ourselves

How to access information
It is our intention to publish as much information as possible on our website and to update or replace documents as appropriate.

If information you require is not on the website, or if you prefer to view the information in a different way, please write or fax your request to:

The Information & Research Unit
Hertfordshire Probation

» There is a cover charge indicated for a published documents
» Glossy or bound paper copies, CD-rom, video or other media are provided

No charge will be made for information carried on this website, including for a single print-out of information on the website.

Where a charge is made, all work related to the request may be charged for, including determining whether the information is held, retrieval, reading and editing any exempt material.

If the cost of the work is likely to exceed £450, we will let you know, together with what options are available to you, including paying the fee, withdrawing the request, receiving a summary of information or viewing the information on site.
