Working in the National Probation Service

Working within the National Probation Service can be demanding but rewarding.  If you like working with people and have an interest in criminal justice, why not consider joining us?

There are many different roles including Probation Officers, Treatment Managers, Probation Service Officers, Unpaid Work Supervisors, administrators and support staff.

The exact work that you might do will vary according to the job but typical tasks include:

  • Working with people that have committed many different types of offences. These will include violence, theft, murder and sex offences
  • Supervising offenders and organising support such as offending behaviour programmes, drug rehabilitation or employment and education training
  • Preparing prisoners for release and supervising those on licence
  • Preparing reports for courts
  • Working with victims of crime
