The National Probation Service (Hertfordshire) supports the professional development of all of its staff. Employees are encouraged to continuously improve and update their skills and to study for relevant qualifications. Where possible, we will assist with funding for qualifcations such as BAs, MAs, NVQs and the Diploma in Management Studies.
We also support the membership of professional organisations and recognise membership of the main trade unions for probation employees.

 Probation Boards' Association (PBA)

The Probation Boards' Association is the national employer's organisation for local Probation Boards. It represents and supports the 42 local Probation Boards in England and Wales.
Hertfordshire Black and Asian Workers' Group
Hertfordshire has an active Black and Asian Workers' Group that meets regularly and represents the interests of its members within the National Probation Service (Hertfordshire). Details of the group can be provided to new recruits to the probation area.
Association of Black Probation Officers
Works with staff of African, African-Caribbean and Asian origin to oppose the effects of racism.

National Association of Asian Probation Staff
Encourages and maintains a support group of members promoting an Asian perspective on professional issues. Initiates and campaigns for changes within the criminal justice system to address disadvantage suffered by all minority ethnic groups.
