Probation signs up interpeting and translation service |

Herfordshire Probation Trust has signed a deal to provide interpreting services for use with offenders.
The deal, with Herts Interpreting and Translation Service, a not-for-profit organisation based in Hemel Hempstead, runs from June 2010 to March 2013.
It will enable Hertfordshire Probation to provide a wide range of languages, both spoken and written, to offenders going through the Courts and other legal procedures.
Based in Hemel Hempstead, the interpreting service will also provide British Sign Language interpeters. It will also train Hertfordshire Probation staff on how to work efficiently with interpreters and will produce appointment cards in other languages, making it easier for offenders who cannot read English to remember their appointments.
Herts Interpreting and Translation Service is part of Community Action Dacorum, an umbrella organisation providing support to voluntary organisations and community groups.
Hertfordshire Probation's Commissioning Manager, Doug Hook, said: "We're delighted to be doing business with this company. We have gained a service which combines high quality at reasonable cost together with a number of "added value" benefits.
"As a Probation Trust it is important for us to ensure no offender on our caseload is disadvantaged in terms of their access to justice. Likewise our offender managers need clear communication with each offender in order to carry out their own duties."
The Chief Executive of Community Action Dacorum, Mark Mitchell, said: "We are delighted to provide this service as we share many similar values and aims. As a local organisation with specialist expertise in this area, we value the opportunity to build a positive working relationship with Hertfordshire Probation."
