Chief Exec gives Penal Affairs Group inaugural lecture |
|
Tessa Webb, Chief Executive of Hertfordshire Probation Trust, delivered a lecture on reducing reoffending to the inaugural meeting of the St Albans Penal Affairs Group in October.
Hosted by the University of Hertfordshire Student Law Society, the event was attended by: the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, the Countess of Verulam; Lord Charles Cecil, the High Sheriff-elect of Hertfordshire; law students; judges and local magistrates; members of the clergy and members of the public.
Tessa's lecture was followed by a talk from Yasmin, a woman who overcame substance misuse and transformed her life with the support of Hertfordshire Probation.
Yasmin, who now represents ex-offenders on Hertfordshire Probation's Diversity Strategy Group as well as on its Service-Users Reference Group, explained how she turned her life around through active engagement with drug rehabilition therapy and the Women's Programme, a programme run by Hertfordshire and only a small number of other probation trusts, that looks at the very specific issues facing female offenders.
