Prolific offender programme shortlisted for award |
A programme aimed at breaking the cycle of reoffending - and thereby reducing the number of victims - has been shortlisted for a prestigious national awrad.
The Choices and Consequences (C2) programme, led by Herfordshire Probation and Hertfordshire police, has been shortlisted for the Howard League for Penal Reform annual Community Programme Awards.
C2 aims to break the cycle of reoffending and ultimately reduce the number of victims. Those admitted onto the programme must be non-violent offenders and usually they have an addiction of some kind. They must admit all their crimes and comply with strict conditions, including close monitoring, drugs treatment courses and drug testing (where appropriate) and an offending behaviour programme. If they do not comply, they return to court to be sentenced for all the crimes they have confessed to.
Aimed at prolific offenders who are considered most likely to respond to the support offered by the programme, C2 is a partnership initiative involving a large number of agencies.
The winners of these prestigious awards will be announced at a national conference at the Kings Fund, London, on 6 July.
